Village Hall - Eddie May has completed his input to the painting of the village hall.  In January you may see the community payback personnel continuing the good work.

Friday 26th January at 19.00 p.m. sees the welcome return of the Pop Up Pub.  The evening entertainment will be provided by a ukele band.  Supper is included in the price of the ticket, prices and other details of which are being finalised.  Proceeds will go towards Village Hall funds which have recently suffered something of a setback with the necessary purchase and installation of a new boiler.

Cricket Field - Papers concerning the planning application for our cricket pitch were submitted some time ago to WDC, as earlier reported.  We still await the validation and subsequent publication of the cricket pitch planning application.  It is to be hoped that we will hear more in the course of January.

Community Matters Foodbank, Trinity Church, Lane End - Timings for our deliveries of contributions to the Holy Trinity, Lane End ‘Community Matters’ are to change in the New Year, at least for an experimental period.  The dates for 2024 up until Easter (29.03 – 01.04) are - Friday 19th Jan; Friday 16th February and Friday 15th March.  As usual please leave your contributions in the church or under the porch before 10.00 a.m. on the Friday.  It is pleasing to be able to report that Cadmore End is regularly ‘mentioned in dispatches’ on account of its generous contributions month after month.

Cadmore Carollers – as ever, our thanks go the Cadmore Carollers for their festive carol singing.  They report,  “We hope all enjoyed the carols sung, as we went out on the three nights before Christmas to cover Cadmore Common, Bolter End and Cadmore Little Common. Thank you to all who opened their door, gave us chocolate, money and welcomed us in for a drink.  We raised over £500 for Christian Aid!”

Other matters
Tues 2nd January 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon  - Coffee and Chat + Bring and Buy in the Church.

Robert Harding of Cadmore Common - Robert’s unexpected death in early December, whilst out on a  run with his running club, was a shock to all who knew him.  Robert grew up in Cadmore End; he was a Cadmore Caroller for many years and lived the last thirty years on Cadmore Common.  He was a school friend of Richard (Dick) Bates, and was well known by many others locally.  Professionally he was a project manager in the construction industry and he had many other interests, including walking and the natural world.  His historical knowledge of the Cadmore communities will be very much missed and the steering group of the church’s nave roof project will feel the loss of Robert’s skills as we move into the final stages of completing the repairs and replacement work to the church roof.  We send our condolences to his wife Sue.

Nigel King RIP - sadly Nigel passed away on the 15th December.  Our sympathy and prayers go to Sandra, their two daughters and families.  They lived in Cadmore End at High Hedges for 34 years and their daughters attended Cadmore End School.  Nigel was a valued member of our community, on the Little Common Committee when it took over the track maintenance and later as Councillor King on the Lane End Parish Council.  A Memorial Service at Cadmore End Church on Thursday 1st February  is being planned followed by a wake in the Village Hall, details to follow.
Seasons greetings, safe travel throughout the festive season and best wishes for a prosperous, healthy New Year.
