Cadmore End News April 2021
Church Services Easter.
It is planned that Church Services will return to…if not normal at least to how they were prior to Christmas and the latest round of restrictions… for Easter.
Consequently there will be no singing…alas…and observation of the required “ social distancing” ( alternate pews etc) It is planned to hold Services as follows over the next month as follows;
4th April Easter Sunday. 11.00 a.m. Holy Communion. Rev Philip Smith (with organ accompaniment by Heddi)
**( Please note that this will be the inaugural Service at St Mary Le Moor conducted by our new assistant Vicar Rev Philip Smith. Philip will be presiding first at Holy Trinity Lane End on Easter Sunday before coming to us so this will be only his 2nd Service in the Diocese. Even if you are not a regular worshiper at church it would be good to welcome him with a good turn out! We wish him and his wife Lucy a long and happy association with our community.
Barbara North RIP. Very sadly we have to report the death, peacefully , on 26th March of Barbara North. Until the recent restrictions made attendance impossible she was still a regular member of the congregation aged 93. Barbara has been a committed and loyal supporter of St Mary Le Moor for longer than most of us can remember. For many years she was our “resident” organist in the church which she played in her own way like a piano. Barbara loved singing and was for many years a member of the choir in Lane End Methodist church. In addition she was a committed gardener and an inexhaustible fund of local history, witness the many popular history events she held in the Village Hall in both Lane End & Cadmore End. There is not room here to pay proper tribute to the many ways she has enhanced the church and the greater community. Sufficient to say she will be much- missed. No details are available yet of the funeral arrangements. We offer our sympathy and condolences to all her extended family.
Other church matters. Thank you to John Heck for his work trimming the “Alan Wilshire oak” on the SW corner of the churchyard and for clearing the twigs/branches that had fallen on the wild garden. Also for his expert repairing of the porch roof a section of which had given way. You really “can’t see the join”! ( with apologies to Ernie Wise ). Finally (?! ) thank you John for sorting out the damage to the Village Hall floor. What would the Village do without you…,? ( hire someone no doubt at great expense? ). Finally thanks also to Gerald Sharpe for planting more snowdrops for next year on the verge and to Peter J for an early cut of the churchyard grass
