Pop Up Pub. Another successful PopUp Pub, to add to the number of other successful “Pop Up’s” which have been held in the past…pre Covid… was held in the Village Hall on Sat.19th April. Once again it was a happy, and very welcome social event after many months enduring the restrictions of LockDown. Thank you to all who attended (50 approx) and for your generosity which helped to raise a total in excess of £800.Thanks too to all who helped with the catering or in other ways but particularly to Sharon Berg who was the driving force behind the event. If these popular events are to continue….and let’s hope they will…. theCommittee is looking for new people to help run these events.

One Can Trust Heroes’ Recent Update from Kim.starkey@onecantrust.org.uk. One only has to listen to the News to realise & appreciate just how much people are struggling….and arguably the situation is only going to get worse…so it is gratifying to receive this appreciatory update from the One Can Trust. “Thenumber of people we are supporting continues to rise and yesterday we sent out 83 food parcels, the most we have ever sent out in one day. Our incredible team of volunteers are working harder than ever and we have recruited some new drivers too in the last few weeks to keep up with demand. We need more volunteers though, particularly to raise awareness and encourage donations at supermarkets as our food levels are running dangerously low. We currently have under two weeks ‘worth of food for approximately half our food items. Please get in touch if you can spare a couple of hours a week to volunteer”. A reminder that Donations to One Can Trust/Community Matters are collected from the Church by Clifford & Douglasevery Friday approx. 10.00 a.m.

Help for Ukraine. As many are already aware Warren Detsiny, (son of Michael & Angela in Frieth, known to many of us in the Village), drove out to Ukraine, solo, in recent weeks to deliver a van load of all kinds of aid contributions, (blankets, clothes etc). Warren had originally intended to leave his van there as an added “donation” but there were so many donations he couldn’t fit it all in so he was planning making a further trip (last weekend?). The collection from St Mary Le Moor on Sunday 6th March raised in excess of £200 which went towards Warren’s travelling expenses (fuel/accommodation etc).

R.I.P. Sadly we have to report the death of Bob Bates, brother of Richard “Dick” Bates. Bob was a popular figure delivering the milk in the far-off (?) days when we still had daily deliveries. He is fondly rememberedby many of us in the Village as “Bob the Milk”.  Our condolences to Dick.
