Cadmore End News December

news Dec 02, 2021

Remembrance Sunday. Over 30 Villagers attended the annual Act of Remembrance in St Mary Le Moor on 14th November to pay their respects and give thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the 2 World Wars.  Paddy Blythe read out the sobering number of those from the Village who gave their lives while we were also treated to a reading of a moving poem read by his daughter Alice.  We were indebted to Judy Taylor for conducting the Service. Thank you to Clifford & Sally for the considerable efforts you went to organising the Service.  Also “Hats Off” to Gerald & Janet for the annual display of miniature commemorative crosses in the Garden of Remembrance and to Janet for the spectacular and original display(s) of crocheted poppies decorating the porch & both gates. Colourful& original.

Advent Carol Service. A combined congregation of Cadmore Enders together with a welcome few from Lane End arrived in unseasonably early (?) snow for the annual Advent Carol Service. The church looked a picture lit by candelight. Thank you to Rev Mark for presiding over the Service which included the traditional Readings and Advent carols. We were treated to the most stirring, uplifting organ accompaniment by Heddi….as always… including an end of Service “voluntary” which received a well -deserved round of applause.

Welcome. A big welcome to the Village to Olly & Rebecca who have just moved into Chiltern Cottage …recently returned from Dubai they have been welcomed by the 1st   blasts of a UK Winter. We wish them a long and happy association with the Village.

Defibrillator at Village Hall. Many in the Village may have noticed the recently-installed defibrillator outside the Village Hall. As many will know there has been one for public access for some time in Lane End so we are extremely grateful to Lane End PC for this installation here in Cadmore End. As many will know, should an emergency arise…. hopefully not… “Defibrillators help to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, a heartbeat that is uneven or that is too slow or too fast. It can also restore the heart's beating if the heart suddenly stops.”

Food Bank Donations. Our Food Bank Donations continue to be much needed and gratefully received. For Christmas, special treats would be welcome such as tins/boxes of sweets/biscuits, mince pies, crisps or any other items (not alcohol which foodbanks cannot distribute). We suggest these are concentrated on our delivery for Friday 10th December but any week will be fine. With winter weather it may be best to leave all donations in the church on the pew just inside the door on the right. Church is open from about 9.00am to 4.00pm. Otherwise leave in the porch as before. Please leave donations on Thursdays (or earlier) and before 10.00am on Fridays. The usual basic food, fresh produce, household goods etc, is also needed. The last delivery before Christmas Friday 17th December
